About Heather Kangaloo
This isn’t your first rodeo. You have read all the self-help parenting books you could get your hands on and you’re still coming up empty-handed. You’re looking for solutions, and you have even tried other therapies to help you and your child find the relational connection you’re looking for. Finally! You’re in the right place. The diagnosis is Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). I am a specialist who not only understands and successfully treats this condition, but I also live it. I train parents to be therapeutic parents with a special empathy based approach that has seen much success.
Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a deep primal wounding of the initial bond between caregiver and child. I provide parents with a successful road map to reach their child’s heart. I can help you discover the joyful connected relationship you would like to have with your adopted child.
As the parent of a special needs child, I understand, on a personal level, the difficulties parents face living with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). I will offer you the empathy and equip you with the skills you need, to bring the change and connection, you and your child desperately desire.
I am originally from the Boston Massachusetts area and relocated to Sarasota, Florida in 2001. I love the snow but only on video. My husband and I have been married for 28 years and have three grown children and six grandchildren. My oldest son is now 36! I have been a single mother, now part of a blended family, and my own children are biracial. I have worn so many hats and most recently walked the journey of adoption! We legally adopted our youngest daughter at approximately 2 years of age. She is a delight and doing very well in spite of her very difficult beginning. She keeps us on our toes.
I have raised a child with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) and another child with OCD and Tourette’s Syndrome (TS). Now I’m raising a precious child with RAD. I have seen parenting from many different vantage points over a number of years and through many different lenses. My personal experience, combined with my clinical experience, brings an added depth of understanding when working with my clients.
